My next project, just as soon as I finish with Basin Street Blues below…
Van Morrison’s song arranged and played by Colin Tribe on soprano ukulele. It fitted so well it could have been written for the Uke! Music&tabs from colinrtribe@btinternet.com
The Basin Street Blues / 1926
The Piece I am on now, also arranged by Colin.
A lovely early Jazz tune written by Spencer Williams in honour of the New Orleans Street where he lived in 1926, here played on Ukulele by Colin Tribe, Music&tabs from colinrtribe@btinternet.com
Here the tab for Moanin’ by Bobby Timmins, arranged by Colin Tribe
Here a few positions to improvise in..
Moanin’ by Bobby Timmins
By Colin Tribe, he offered also the tabs and some tabs on improvising.
He generally offers any one of his 280+ tabs and arrangements for free as first try and asks very reasonable prices for convenient packages. I bought a “Starter Kit” of 10 of my most favorite Jazz and Blues tabs for 8 GP (Pounds), the bigger the qty, the better the rebate and the Tabs are quiet excellent. Actually the only one I was disappointed at first is the on for this song: Moanin. It was only a one pager and a lot of the stuff of the video missing, until I realized that it was only the basic riffs to go start exploring. All the other tabs (for songs) are much more detailed, but her less is really more…;-)
Here is what Colin has to say:
A jazz tune, this one from Bobby Timmins, here arranged for Ukulele with Band in a Box backing track. Music&tabs of the head from colinrtribe@btinternet.com
Part 1 of the alternative chord shapes for Blues in A and E.
I always wanted to have all alternative chord shapes together in one place, ‘cause by not using them too often (yet) I always had the problem not to remeber the exact opportunities I have at a certain point and much too often, when I finally looked them up, part of the “flowing” idea of the music was lost.
I have them also as PowerTab files and PDF’s, if you would like them in one of these formats just use the link to the right to contact me.
Und yes, please disregard the music notation, one of the very few bugs in PowerTab is that you can’t switch them off und use Tabs only.
Part 2 of the alternative Blues chords, here are also the relative minors as shown in some circles of 5ths.
A relative minor chord can be used instead of a corresponding major chord where you feel it may fit from the style of music you want to play.
This is a simple Uke Blues in Am, the music to this piece is furthe down the page.
This is my first try with PowerTab, had to find a pdf to jpg converter since tumblr doesn’t allow upload of PDFs. (don’t use the “free office blah bla” converter, it is all over the place, but annoying (5 Questions to buy for every conversion, one would have been alright…) and it is very shitty on graphics in the pdf)
I ended up using “FM PDF to JPG converter” which is free in low resolution pics, but that works fine for tumbr / blogging.
Rock Around Johnny B. Goode
Hey another one from WS64 the guy with many names but an unique Uke style
Here some words from him too:
Here’s a medley of 2 of the most famous Rock’n’Roll songs, Bill Haley’s “Rock Around The Clock” and Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode”. The bass-WS64 even plays an upright bass this time. Kinda! ;) MP3 is available here: http://www.box.net/shared/ifzsizlbv2
and some more:
WS How long does it usually take you to arrange and then memorize a song like this?
This one is a “One-day-song”.I just played some rock’n’roll riffs, and suddenly there were both songs, I just had to do some arrangement around it. From the moment I played the first riffs to until the complete ukulele part was recorded and filmed I guess 2 or 3 hours passed, not more. The problem is to be still able to play this song after I started working on the next!
This is a multi user blog and can be joined by anyone that feels like posting Uke related stuff, from Beginners to Advanced, and not only for people from Montreal.
It is ment to share and teach, and not to make competition, but rather complement excisting blogs about the Uke.
I personally would like to find other players to share and make also music together (send around MP3's and add to them second, third and x-th tracks to create nice arrangments).
So if you're interested, just use the "Ask Me" button below and I will send you my contact info for further exchange.
This blog is ment only for music, so please no politics, religion or other drugs........
At the end a few words about rights.
Lot's of the stuff I post here I downloaded a long time back from the Net, and since it was freely available for download, I use it here for posts,
BUT should ANYONE at ANYTIME object to me or other members posting her/his stuff on this blog, just send me a quick message through the "Ask Me" button below and I'll take care of it as soon as I can (max within a week if I am REALLY busy), OK?
A very big thankyou for the guyz n girlz that sat down and did all that work, even 8 years later it is still very much appriciated!
It was written for Windows up to XP, but seams to run fine under Win 7 and others used it in Vista too.
Just install a PDF printer driver to simply create PDF files from your tabs...(print to file)
Back to PowerTab, it is setup for 6 and 7 string Guitar and 4 and 5 string Bass. (and the 4 string Bass set can be tweaked for use with Uke tabs)
Here a quick manual on how to tweak it for Uke or any other string instrument with up to 7 differently tuned strings (For 8 stringers where 2 strings always in the same tune (or octaved), use 4 string settings)
And here the contact Info for Colin Tribe:
He has a Youtube Channel, but otherwise can be contacted by email for all his tabs and arrangements at: colinrtribe@btinternet.com
